There are common places we can find in almost every town in the world. They can be public, social and workplaces, such as schools, shops, malls, pubs, parks, etc. and we all go to these places in order to meet our needs.
A bank, for example, could be the best way to keep your money safe and away from spending a lot. Some people go to the bank to make money accounts. Others go to add to or withdraw money from their accounts. Some people take loans from the bank. You can also transfer money from your account to someone else's account.
A hospital is an institution where the sick or injured are given medical or surgical care. You can always find doctors and nurses there to take care of your health problems.
And a museum is a building or a place where works of art, scientific specimens, or other objects of permanent value are kept and displayed.
The map above shows how a small town is structured. Maggie is new in this town and she wants to visit a museum, she needs to go to the bank and she wants to know where the hospital is in case of any emergency. She is in the art gallery right now and she asks the receptionist for directions to those places. Let's see their conversation:
Maggie: Excuse me, please. Is there a museum near here?
Receptionist: Hmm.. it's on Lane Street, just turn left and go straight until you see the Music Shop, it's next to it..
Maggie: Thanks. Oh, and is there any bank around here?
Receptionist: Yeah. Go straight for two blocks and turn left on Palm Street, it's across from the supermarket.
Maggie: Oh, yeah. Thanks. And I'm sorry, just one more thing: where's the closest hospital?
Receptionist: Uh... there's one on this street. Just go straight here on Queen Avenue for one block, it's on your right, next to the Police Station
